1st Arab Paragliding Competition
The First Arab Paragliding Competition coinciding with the Asir International Paragliding Championship, held from July 7–10, 2009.
The championship took place in the Al-Soudah Mountains area in the city of Abha, about 15 kilometers from the hotels where the participants and heads of delegations were staying. The arrangement for conducting the championship events was well-organized in terms of controlling flight movement. All technical devices, equipment, and administrative provisions necessary for the championship were provided in an excellent and complete manner. The take-off area was more than 3,500 meters above sea level, while the target area was over 2,000 meters above sea level. One of the main features of this location was the availability of a cable car between the take-off and target areas, allowing pilots to return from the target area back to the take-off area, as well as enabling judges and organizers to reach the target area.
